HIV

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the immune system of an infected person, specifically the white blood cells called CD4 cells. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to an advanced stage called Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV remains a major global public health issue and the prevalence of HIV-AIDS in Myanmar is one of the highest in South-East Asia Region. Though it is deadly, HIV-AIDS can be prevented and taking life long treatment can maintain low HIV load and lower the risk of HIV transmission. Learn more about HIV from the courses.
